Untitled

There are some pictures that are so ugly that it's funny. But then there are those pictures that are so ugly that it surpasses any possiblity of being funny. You're just left with a sense of disgust. I experienced that today.

Richardian Insecurities

I have a really flat face. My hair is too long and ugly. I'm kind of fat. But I'm cool so it's ok.

My Last Trip to Narnia

I finished the Chronicles of Narnia and I have never felt a sense of completeness as I feel finishing Narnia. All other series, such as Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Prydain, I's, etc., all leave me a feeling of emptiness. I am happy I read the series but I'm sad that it is all over. The Chronicles of Narnia, however, leaves me a feeling of completeness. The last sentence of the last book leaves the end so open but at the same time bring the book to a close.

All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth had read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.

Now I have to go watch the movies and probably be disappointed.

A Story

There was once a Christian man and something awful had happened to him. And like all Christian men, when something bad happens, he prayed. This man liked to go on a walk while he prays because it clears his head so he went out for a walk to pray. As he was walking in his suburban neighborhood, he decided to turn into a secluded neighborhood so that the sound of cars on the main street would not bother him. As he was in the secluded neighborhood, he, out of the corner of his eyes, saw a lone car driving by him. The neighborhood had no cars and a very minimal amount of lights with no people which may be why he noticed the car. On the passenger side of the car, he saw a man half-way out the window, about to chuck something at him.

He ducked out of the way and then heard from the car, "Get him, get him." This man was a great fighter and was about to make a stand when he saw the back seat door open. This showed that there were at least three men in the car and probably four. As strong as this guy was, he could not take on three people so he ran for it.

He ran and ran until he got to his dorm and posted up what just happened on his blog.

Richard's Thoughts on The Forbidden Kingdom

I have a lot of criticism on this movie not only because it was poorly made but also because it just does some things that are uncharacteristic of A) movies, B) kung fu fight scenes, C) Chinese movies, and D) children movies.

A) The Forbidden Kingdom's Fatal Mistakes As A Movie

One thing that really bothered me was a theme that the writers decided to shove into the movie. The theme of everyday life being an adventure is a theme that no movie should ever have. One goes to the movies so that they can forget about their everyday life but with a theme like this, The Forbidden Kingdom is shoving all its audience members back into reality. I do not appreciate this gesture. I thought the beginning was fairly decent all the way until Jason, the protagonist, gets mixed up with the hooligans. Then everything goes downhill. One more thing that really bothered me besides the theme was that Jason had no reason whatsoever to go back into his own world. The movie does not show a great relationship between Jason and his mother which might be the only thing that could convince Jason to go back. Not only that, his only apparent friend gets killed which would further Jason's reasons to stay in the Chinese wonderland.

B) The Forbidden Kingdom's Fatal Mistakes With Its Kung Fu Fight Scenes

This is particularly but not exclusively referring to the fight scene between Jet Li and Jackie Chan. I think an associate of mine makes a good point in saying that the fight scene was too long despite the fact that the two fighting were Jet Li and Jackie Chan. "It's all cool but, enough is enough." (Terrance Kimm, roughly paraphrased) Another thing done horribly wrong was the soundtrack for the fight scene. The music was definitely American and not Kung Fu music at all. When they were fighting, it didn't seem like they were fighting but just performing their choreographed moves because the music was just too much. It didn't match at all and at times, it even seemed like the music was too overwhelming and it was hard to concentrate on the fight.

C) The Forbidden Kingdom's Fatal Mistake as a Chinese movie

The Forbidden Kingdom, like The Last Samurai, had a protagonist of Caucasian decent. Freaking Ay.

D) The Forbidden Kingdom's Fatal Mistake as a children's film

A four letter word that starts with S and rhymes with hit.
A five letter word that starts with B and rhymes with itch.

I also have some praises for The Forbidden Kingdom:

Sparrow was not ugly
Sparrow did not kiss Jason
The Witch was not ugly
The Witch was kind of pretty
The Witch's real name is BingBing, seriously
Jackie Chan
Jet Li
The secret of Jet Li's character (Don't want to spoil it)
There are some really nice shots of Jason in mad pain

Music Series: Yoon Do Hyun Band (YB)

I have nothing but respect for these monkeys. Seriously. Yoon Do Hyun has such a charismatic voice and with his own show, he presents new and upcoming bands to the world. Members are Yoon Do Hyun on Vocals, Kim Ji Won on Drums, Park Tae Hee on Bass, and Baby G, Heo Jun, on Guitar. These guys displayed their Korean pride by composing a grip of songs for the 2002 World Cup and the songs were pretty good. I even heard that Yoon Do Hyun was attending seminary but I'm too lazy to follow up my research on it. Whatever. Listen to them.

Music Series: A Band That I Don't Really Want Associated With My Image But They Have Good Songs So You Should Check Them Out

Despite the ridiculously ridiculous name, I really like AFI (A Fire Inside). Whenever I listen to their songs, I can't help but think that there has to be a limit on the amount of catchy songs that one band can write. I loved, did not buy but still loved, their album Sing the Sorrow. When they released Decemberunderground, I was afraid that they might have gotten suckier like so many other bands but I was pleasantly surprised. Just don't look at them too much, but listen to them. I don't want to write too much about these guys so...ja. If you want to know members, google them.

Music Series: Peter Pan Complex

This is one of the very few bands I like which has a pretty female drummer. Not only is she pretty but she is also very good. Their songs are very pretty and the main singer's voice is ridiculously high. Peter Pan Complex consists of Kim Kyung In (Pretty Drummer), Jun Ji Han (Ridiculously High Vocals), Lee Chi Won and Lee Wan Goo (Insignificant Guitarist and Bassist, respectively). I grew very fond of Korean Indie Bands a couple years back so expect more of them.

The Beauty of Human Resources

A lot of the prettiest in Biola work in Human Resources which I find myself going to a lot more often because I have to get a job. They are so pretty. Unfortunately I'm struck with a disease known only as the Asian Persuasion which doesn't allow me to associate with any pretty girls of Caucasian decent. I'm kind of sad but I will pursue my dreams which I set ever since coming to Biola. Here's a list of goals I wish to achieve in Biola:
  1. Meet and get to know a really really tall and pretty white girl.
  2. Meet and get to know really really pretty white girls.
  3. Meet and get to know really really nice pretty white girls.
  4. Get fit. Obesity is not a small problem.
  5. Meet and befriend ridiculously buff white guys.

Whatever. All I can do is appreciate the aesthetic value of it all. I really hope I achieve my goals. All these tasks seem so daunting. What to do...

Music Series: Guitar Wolf

The coolest band ever. They are the originators of Jet Rock. They play the loudest music ever. This is as image oriented a band can get. Jet Rock comes from Joan Jett who is a big influence to them. They even made a zombie movie out of the coolness of Guitar Wolf. Amazing. The members are Guitar Wolf, Bass Wolf, and Drum Wolf. Amazing. However, unfortunately, Bass Wolf died of heart failure or something. In the picture is Bass Wolf since I think Bass Wolf is cooler than the new guy. They play really loud music.

One interesting fact would be how they picked the new bassist. It deeply resembles how the Sex Pistols picked Sid Vicious to play bass for them. U.G., new bassist, didn't even know how to play the bass but admired Guitar Wolf so much that Guitar Wolf allowed him to join. Guitar Wolf states that he was looking for a "bad boy with no education." He also states about U.G. "He is 19 years old. Guitar Wolf is the only rock’n’roll he has ever listened to. He had never played the bass, either."

Crazy people.

Music Series: Regina Spektor

One sunny afternoon, during my beloved Mathematics course, a dear associate of mine referred me to Regina Spektor. Little did I know that this little Russo-Jewish singer would change my life. I listened to her and I bought a CD which is revolutionary for me since I don't spend money.

She has that voice that I find so charismatic and attractive. She plays around with words and sounds in her songs and she is kinda ninda pretty. Not really. Anywho, she plays the piano but what really got me was a song she played where she played piano with one hand, and banged on a chair with a stick on the other. Poor Little Rich Boy by Regina Spektor.

New Music Series: Stance Punks

Hrm. I decided to post up a band and some info on them as well as why I like them for the next few posts. So first up is: Stance Punks.

The music Stance Punks make contain catchy melodies and a lot of energy. It is constantly shouting, not screaming which is a big difference. The main singer, Tsuru, looks really funny at times and the guitarist, Kinya, has a Gibson SG. The bassist, Tetsushi, has a semi-bowl cut. The drummer, Kenichi, has cool hair style. It's all in Japanese so I don't understand the lyrics but I still like it. I listen to music for the music, not the messages. Musicians should make music, not messages. So I don't mind shallow music. If a good song just happens to have a good message then more power to it. However, if a song has the most unharmonious lyrics and a great message without a good beat, shame on it. I think Ironic by Alanis Morissette would be an example of that. Of course there's a point where even I don't like a song based on its lyrics. Sugar by System of a Down has the most absurd one-liner. I would definitely like it if it weren't for that.

Anywho, back onto Stance Punks, I just like the image they give out and the music they play.

Uggs: Women's Proclamation that They Don't Care What Men Think

Uggs. Freakin Uggs. I seriously think that women wear Uggs to spite men. I see a really pretty girl and I look down at her shoes and she is wearing Uggs and I have to retract my first judgment. I think Uggs has the perfect title for themselves. The name itself is just so uggly that one wonders who would something named so uggly. Next, they look detestable. I can't understand why women would wear such monstrosities and I came up with one conclusion. Uggs is a revolution among women showing that they don't care what men think and that women can wear whatever they want without worrying what men think. I hold a new found respect for women, not that I didn't respect women before this but yeah.

Post Script. This blog excludes all girls that I personally and impersonally know. So ya'll can wear it cuz I think you're all still beautiful and your fashion sense is great. AND I still respect ya'll so...yeah. Sex Pistols: Sid Vicious.

Favorite Picture of Sid Vicious.

A Reason for Everything I Do

I found out that I do a lot of weird things and I can explain them. One in particular are the bizarre essay topics I choose to write about in Biola. Last year, I shocked my teacher and my peers by writing about the positive influence of illegal drugs. I am very proud of my essay and you should read it if you have time. Just ask me and I'll post it up somewhere. This year, I shocked myself by analyzing a poem about prostitution. Props to Sharkface. Anywho, I found out that I do these shocking things particularly because Biola is a Christian College and the teachers and students are all Christians for the most part. I know that people don't always act Christian in Biola; people curse, fight, get violent, smoke, gamble, and other such sins. I am no diferente. I just write like a pagan. I don't hold back too much on my writing. My poems and my essays are a reflection of that.

Anywho, I write on such Christianly awkward topics because I don't want the teachers or students that read my essay to get too comfortable in a Christian setting. They have to realize that such sins exist even in Biola and they can't just go on ignoring them. Basically, I just try to use shock factor to shock Christians out of their states of naivety and look at the world with "eyes unclouded" (Princess Mononoke). haha. Anywho. Sex Pistols.

I love these guys.

April 1st, 2008

Today I got a notice that I have to pay up for my car, which I completely totaled. I have to pay for the towing, the light post, the electric pole, the Vonnie Ln. sign, and the fire hydrant. The towing: $120, Light Post: $3250, Electric Pole (and rewiring): $4500, the Vonnie Ln. sign: $750, Fire Hydrant (and water lost): $975. Overall, I owe $9595. They gave me a notice that I had to pay a minimum of $200 a month which is ridiculous cuz they told me I only had to pay $50 a month...I seriously don't know what to say. I don't know why the notice came so late either, in April, fools don't even have the decency to let me prepare. I'm seriously stuck. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. I'm on hold for my job so my paycheck is very limited too. I guess I'll just...I don't know.
